Finance and Responsibilities

Financial and organisational responsibilities of home educating parents/ carers of children with an EHCP.

Organisational and financial responsibility

Home educating parents and carers assume full responsibility for their child’s education, including organisational and financial responsibility. This includes home educating parents and carers of children with an EHCP and/or SEND. No tuition, teaching, resources or laptops are available from the local authority, Barnet Education & Learning Services or the previous school. It is also the parents/ carers responsibility to organise and pay for all examinations for their home educated child.

Section F of the EHCP

Where a child has an EHCP and is home educated, the local authority is not under a duty to make the special educational provision set out in the EHCP, provided it is satisfied that the arrangements made by the parents/ carers are suitable. This is in line with paragraph 10.32 of the SEND Code of Practice. The duty under section F is discharged from the Local Authority.

Section G of the EHCP

If there is health care provision in Section G of a child/ young person’s EHCP, the health body must still arrange this.
