Elective Home Education (EHE)

The Elective Home Education (EHE) team at Barnet Education & Learning Services (BELS) are only able to register children and young people of compulsory school age.

When does compulsory school age start?

 

Compulsory school age starts on 31 December, 31 March or 31 August following a child’s fifth birthday - whichever comes first. If a child’s fifth birthday is on one of those dates then they reach compulsory school age on that date.

 

When does compulsory school age end?

 

Compulsory school age ends on the last Friday in June if a child reaches the age of 16 by the end of the summer holidays. At this point, all Year 11 home educated young people are removed from the Elective Home Education team records and transferred over to the Post 16 team. Both teams are separate.
